Chamika Weerasinghe and Ruth Marsden both won their respective events unbeaten and Nicola Dawson finished 3rd in the cadet girls resulting in qualification. Top 4 in each event get automatic qualification. George Sainsbury narrowly missed out, but nevertheless had some very good results. Well played all, and the very best of luck next month in the main event. Will Bayley returned this week to his old club, to share his latest medal haul including his gold from the 2014 World Championship, with some of our younger (and older!) players. Will's hard work, dedication and success continues to be a real source of inspiration to all our members.
A total of 10 players from 3 teams represented Byng Hall at the first weekend of Women's British League in Tipton near Birmingham on the weekend of 27/28th of September. There were some good results and strong performances over the first weekend. The second weekend is next February.
Following Will's monumental result in Beijing on the world stage, beating the then current world number 1 and European champion in the final Will once again moves to the dizzy heights of world ranked number 1 congratulations from all of us at your home club Byng Hall TTC
Hot off the press, Isabel was runner up today at the Horsham Spinners 2 star on Sunday 20th July. See attached Photo with Rory Scott presenting
Isabel came back from 2 -0 down to defeat Melissa Berry from Sussex 3-2. She achieved this through strong attacking play both Forehand and backhand. She served brilliantly opening up her opponent with clear winners. She then lost to Scarlet 3-0 although was very competitive throughout the match leading several times in all games. She then stepped up to plate in the under 12s she again played Scarlet and took the first game off Scarlet 11-7 and lead 4-0 & 8-6 in the second, she couldn’t convert and was pegged back but gave her loads of confidence. She then played other England ranked players Habina Seo (her dad changed the bat after game 1-which was objected too) from Hampshire leading first game 6-2 before being pegged back but again competitive in all games with good attacking play. She then played Feiyang Wang from Essex very good player (she won the title although she looked 14) who looped the ball with ease she was different class although good experience for Isabel. The tournament was Isabel’s best performance to date and is definitely moving forward. Come and join in the first National Table Tennis Day here at Byng Hall on the 17th July.
