Noah Csillag Won the cadet/Junior event in an extremely close completion, with Nicola Dawson taking the RU slot.
In the Open event both Oscar Csillag & Nicola took some scalps against some very experienced senior players, Oscar beating Geoff Curtis & Nicola Beating Mike Sefton. This was the first event any of them had played in against adults and clearly bodes well for the future. Chris Hall a Byng Hall club member won both the open singles & the senior singles event. ![]()

Two of the club juniors Noah and Abbey were part of the BBC's broadcast for Children In Need on Friday 18 November. During the evening at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, Noah and Abbey appeared with Paralympic gold medalist Will Bayley, who began his playing career at Byng Hall TTC and Ross Wilson his bronze medal team mate.
Thank you to everyone who attended our BBC Children In Need fundraiser held at Byng Hall TTC on Tuesday 15 November. We raised £1616 on the evening and it was a great event featuring a marvelous exhibition match between Will Bayley and Ross Wilson, as well as doubles matches with some of the club juniors, matches with Will and Ross against members of the public, a fabulous raffle and an amazing auction which raised over £400 alone in just 15 minutes! Many many thanks to all those who supported the event and all the volunteers who helped on the evening we could not have run the event without them.
Will Bayley and Ross Wilson will be at Byng Hall on Tuesday 15 November between 6.30 - 8.30PM for our BIG BBC Children in Need fundraiser here at Byng Hall. Please come and join us and help us raise as much money as we can for a great cause. Look forward to seeing you.
“I just didn’t know what to do [when I won],” said Bayley. “I spoke to my coach two years ago and he said if I win in Rio I will have to do a special celebration.
“When I was on match point I hadn’t planned anything so I just did that. It probably looked silly. But I was so emotional. I jumped on the table so fast, I couldn’t do that normally. “It would take me ages, but that was quite good. I was scared it was going to break. “I gave the umpire a hug because she was a bit uptight and I wanted to calm her down.” Bayley, 28, added: “Words don’t do it justice, I don’t know if it has sunk in yet. I was so focused, it was like a game of chess, I couldn’t get emotional until the end. “I’ve done it, I never thought it was possible for me, I’ve done the impossible. “I never thought it was going to happen again when I lost in the final in London as table tennis is such an unpredictable sport and to get to a final in two Games is an unbelievable achievement. “This time I thought I am not going to waste the opportunity and I have got to take it here today. It was a hard game but I played really well when it mattered and held my nerve. “Great Britain were laughed at when I first joined the squad, now we’re a force and it’s great to show the world what we can do.” There were never more than two points between the players in the first game as Bayley fought back from 8-6 and 9-8 down, going on a run of three points to take it 11-9. Stroh, who beat Bayley in the group stages, came out quickly in game 2 and opened up a 3-0 lead, prompting Bayley into an early time-out. But Stroh extended his advantage and pulled away to take the game 11-5. Game three was another close one, Bayley’s run from 2-4 to 5-4 resulting in Stroh taking his time-out. It worked as he went 7-5 up, only for Bayley to turn the tables with a run of four points. Although Stroh won the next two to make it 9-9, Bayley took the two after that and moved within a set of gold. The first decisive move was from 2-2 to 5-2 up and after the next four points were shared, Bayley ended in style with four points on the spin to strike gold. Isabel & Alison took part in the inaugural Inter-Regional Finals on the 21st & 22nd May in Kettering. Representing the South East Region in the U13 & U11 events. Isabel entered the team event with Joelle Bennett & Min Jie Guo and finished third in their group she played great winning 2 singles victories including sealing South East’s 3-1 victory over London by beating Valentina Weinstein in five. Day 2 saw both girls in action with Isabel taking on the No 1 seed and current England U13 No 9 Ilysa Lacorte she was not disgraced losing 3-1. She then went on to defeat North West Adelina Gram 3-0. Alison playing in her first competition was very proud in playing in her south east shirt, although no wins really enjoyed the experience. A star for the future!.
