It was pleasing to see so may of our cadet and junior players at the Junior Kent Closed on 16 May. Despite Chumika Weerashinge clinching the U13 and U18 Cat 2 titles, the remainder of the top awards in the other events slipped through our fingers. Noah Csillag reached the final of the U11 tournament having beaten the eventual winner in his group before sadly succumbing all to easily at the last hurdle. Isabel Webb did the same by coming runner up in the U11 final. Becky Hancock took the U18 Cat 2 Girls title and partnered buy Ruth Marsden were also runners up in the U18 Doubles. Both Isabel and Nicola Dawson had some notable performances in the U13 girls but clearly the pressure of the day took its toll on the days results, which means we can only improve next year! Pleasingly the two newest members attended their first County event with some notable performances and in both cases for Archie Moore and Connor McNamara a win or two. It has to be said however that 3 titles and 3 runners up's is still something to proud of ! well done all. Onwards and upwards for next season!!!!
Jasmin Ould retained the Kent senior closed women's title she won last year on Saturday 26th April at the new for this year Maidstone YMCA venue the first time the seniors and junior event have been split. Jas went on to win the U21's and partnered by Heidi Smith completed the treble by winning the doubles. Chris Bartram also did the double by winning the men's and the veterans event. So a clean sweep by the club at the Kent closed on the senior day, look out Kent, the juniors are coming on Saturday 16th of May good luck to them.
Congratulations to Owe and Jurate who won the 2014-2015 Super League Title. In a closely fought league the competition went down to the final match of the season, with Owe and Jurate taking on Tom and Jaz for the championship. In a tense evening, Owe and Jurate finally sealed a nail-biting match and the championship with a 3-2 win on the night. Below the tension mounts for everyone in a key match between Jaz and Jurate Congratulations also to all the players and teams this season, who all contributed to make this one of the the most exceptional and challenging closed tournaments in the South East.
Over the weekend of the 11th & 12th April at the club the SE regional preliminary and final regional trials were held. The star of the weekend was Noah Csillag who won all his group games in the preliminary trials confirming qualification to the National trials is Sheffield in June. In the afternoon cross over matches effectively the final trials, Noah only lost one game to the overall winner of the U11 event, but sadly enough despite beating the second place boy, after a three way tie on count back finished 3rd overall still an outstanding performance. Isabelle Webb, and Nicola Dawson also get automatic qualification as the girls events were not contested. Chumika had already pre qualified for the U11 and 12's on national ranking and finished second in the U13 so has qualified for 3 age groups. Ben Gentry, Oscar Csillag, and our newest member Archie Moore had some good results and gained a great deal of experience. Well done all!
Well done to Byng Hall Black (who were runners up in the second division) and Byng Hall Red, who helped to hold up the first division on the last day of National Cadet League; held on the Sunday of March 8th.
Many thanks to all the coaches, parents and volunteers who help make this such a great event every year. Congratulations to Elm Green B who lifted the Division 1 Title Let's face it - we'd all rather be playing, but it would not be much of a match without an umpire, so this one is for all the umpires out there.
Tom, Ruth and Becky all played for Kent Juniors this weekend at Cippenham Table Tennis Club in the 1st division county playoffs. Despite some positive performances from the whole team they finished second in the Division, just missing out to Hertfordshire who secured the top spot and promotion to the county premiership.
